Destination Graduation is guided by best practices in social work and human services. The two main approaches guiding our practice are Strengths Based Perspective and The Seven Stages of Crisis Intervention Model.
- Strengths Based Perspective: Focus on building a collaborative effort with the student in which the inherent resources the student has and can use to overcome their challenges are highlighted. This approach is goal-oriented, rather than problem focused.
- 7 Stages of Crisis Intervention Model: Many of the students the program will encounter will be in a crisis mode. Therefore, it is crucial that the staff meeting with the students are familiar and proficient in crisis management. The following diagram is a summary of how the Seven Stage Crisis Intervention Model (Roberts, 1991) is used in Destination Graduation:
